VCS Farm to School Week 2008!

Second Annual VCS Farm 2 School Week
Sept. 15-19

VCS will be holding its second annual Farm 2 School Week Sept. 15-19, in accordance with the dates suggested by the state Dept. of Education. The highlight of our F2S week are the local, fresh foods that will be served in our cafeteria EVERY DAY of the week-long event, with Wednesday being our big Harvest Luncheon. Check the white board by the cafeteria each morning to see what is being served and the farms producing the foods. Hats off to our Food Service Staff for preparing locally grown foods for our school community.
In addition, we will be hearing Fun Farm Facts each morning during announcements, and a Farm exhibit will be displayed in our atrium again. We are very pleased to have VCS' own Emily Cates, who owns Harvest Moon Farm in China with her husband, Doug, coming to school for the day on September 18. Emily will be bringing all kinds of live poultry as well as an incredibly variety of vegetables grown on her farm to share with the students.
Celebrate local farms and food, and encourage your child to eat “hot lunch” each day next week; it's not only nutritious and delicious, but leaves a very small carbon footprint on our planet!
