On October 25, students in 7th grade Spanish joined with China Middle School 7th graders taking Spanish for a field trip to Margarita's restaurant. Profe Soifer's 30 estudiantes learned about life in the Mexican city of Tlaquepaque, visiting several artists' and craftsmen's studios through a DVD presentation. Led by the Education Outreach Coordinator, Señor Pat Picciano, they toured the restaurant's extensive folk art collection, and then watched as he prepared guacamole and salsa cruda. Students were then treated to a Mexican luncheon complete with enchiladas, arroz mexicano, frijoles refritos, and fried ice cream. ¡Qué sabroso! Before they left, Señora Soifer was presented with a beautiful, handcrafted candleholder for Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, which is on display in the Spanish classroom.
